Frequently Asked Questions

The following is a list of the most commonly asked questions we’ve received over our decades of combined experience. Although we will be adding to this list frequently, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have.

WHY THE UPHOLSTERY DEPOT?

The Upholstery Depot takes great pride in the quality of our workmanship.  We maintain stringent standards and quality control procedures.  Our use of traditional upholstery methods, along with modern materials, allows us to provide you with a rejuvenated product oftentimes better than the original.  We do not simply replace the fabric; we reduce the furniture to its frame and begin the upholstery process anew.

WHY SHOULD I REUPHOLSTER MY FURNITURE INSTEAD OF BUYING NEW?

The furniture that you already own can be difficult to replace for a number of reasons.  It may fit your space perfectly, be very comfortable, or have deep-routed sentimental value.  When shopping for new furniture, you may find that pieces are too wide, too small, too hard, or just not quite right.  Maybe the only thing wrong with the old furniture is the fabric.  Inexpensive new furniture is often built using inferior frames, fabric, and padding.  Good quality furniture will perform superbly for many years after the discount pieces have been hauled to the dump.  Furniture reupholstery is a simple and cost-effective choice.

DO I NEED TO PURCHASE FABRIC FROM THE UPHOLSTERY DEPOT, OR CAN I BRING IN MY OWN FABRIC?

It is not necessary to purchase fabric from us; however, we offer a vast array of fine fabrics so we encourage you to peruse our offerings when making your fabric selection.  We do not charge a cutting or COM (customer’s own fabric) fee.  However, there are many variables to keep in mind when choosing a suitable fabric, such as pets, children, area traffic, pattern size, texture, and whether it will be indoor or outdoor furniture.  If you are using COM, please note that each shop will have its own style of cutting and that the layout and yardage may differ.  Large prints and plaids will also affect the total yardage. We cannot guarantee the durability and quality of the COM.

CAN I HAVE THE STYLE OF MY FURNITURE CHANGED?

Yes.  If you wish to have the style of your furniture changed to something more modern or classic, we can make that happen.  Examples of small  changes that can make a big difference include updating the legs of the furniture and changing the number or style of the cushions.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

We are often scheduled several weeks out.  Once a deposit is received, we can give you a firm date of completion.  The busiest time of year for upholstery work is between Labor Day and Christmas, and the schedule may be booked out further than usual.  We cannot guarantee completion by the end of the year for pieces not booked by mid-October.

DO YOU DO CUSTOM WORK?

We can build most custom upholstered furniture, such as headboards, beds, and banquettes.  If you have a piece in mind, please show us an image and we can work up a quote.
